Immunization Requirements

All international students are required to submit an Immunization Record in order to ensure they are in compliance with North Carolina Immunization law. For the requirements, please visit the Enrollment Requirements page.

  • Records are due before international student orientation
  • All records must be translated into English
  • International students are required to complete their immunizations by the university’s semester deadline
  • Students who do not meet the deadline will be dropped from classes

Vaccines are required as noted above. Additionally, a Tuberculin (TB) skin test or blood test for TB with a negative result within the 12 months preceding the first day of classes (chest x-ray required if test is positive) is required. The TB skin test or blood test for TB must be performed in a United States facility. Please note: ECU Student Health Services administers the blood test for TB for enrollment requirements and can perform the test when you arrive if needed.

Student Health Insurance

ECU participates in a UNC system-wide insurance plan. You can find information about this plan and enrollment at the Student Health Insurance Plan website.

Please remember that as an F-1 or J-1 international student at ECU, you are required to have health insurance coverage throughout your degree program.

You will not pay for the cost of insurance coverage when you enroll.  The cost will be added to your student account and you will make payment for the insurance at ECU’s Cashier’s Office once you are on campus.

Want to keep your current health coverage?

You may be able to opt out of the system-wide insurance coverage if your current insurance coverage meets NC coverage standards. Students must be registered for classes to be able to start the waiver process. Once a student is registered, gather current insurance information and then visit Student Health Insurance page to find information on how to submit a waiver. New students will be required to create an account by entering their Banner ID and date of birth to proceed with the waiver process; returning students should log in to their existing account with their e-mail address and account password.

Once a waiver has been successfully processed, a credit will be applied to the student’s tuition bill.
