Shae
I am junior in the honors college, double majoring in Public Health and Psychology. I am currently a pre-medical student hoping to attend medical school in the fall of 2022! I am a proud fourth generation pirate and love everything about East Carolina! I love all things Broadway and look forward to answering any questions students have about studying abroad!
Where Did You Study Abroad?
I did my study abroad in the summer of 2019. I traveled to Athens, Greece for six week! I also had the opportunity of traveling to several Grecian islands and southern Italy. I did my study abroad through AIFS, where I was able to meet other students from across America. I was able to complete 6 credits towards my psychology major, which also counted for my global diversity credit and 6 credits in my honors college requirements! It was a summer full of fun, laughter, and great adventure!
What Is Your Favorite Memory From Your Time Abroad?
My favorite memory from studying abroad was seeing all of the Grecian monuments and historical points! It’s one thing to see them in pictures and in Hercules, but it is totally different to stand in front of the Acropolis and see thousands of years of history!
How Has Study Abroad Helped Your Personal and Professional Life?
Because I was involved with a study abroad organization where I was introduced to about 100 other students traveling to Greece, I was forced to really use my personal skills to make bonds early. I knew I wanted to make friends and have a set group of people to travel so as soon as I could, I made contact with the people in which I would be traveling. Studying abroad also will stand out on my resume when I do eventually apply to medical school and I hope that shows that I am an adventurous and cultured woman.
What Advice Can You Offer to Students Interested in Studying Abroad?
Don’t be afraid to try new things! I know first-hand that traveling to a new country/continent can be intimidating, but it truly is the best experiences a college student can experience.
Do You Have Any Plans or Ideas to Travel Abroad Again?
I have so many countries I wish to visit in Europe and will as soon as this pandemic is over!
