Evelin – Argentina & Spain

Hola!

My name is Evelin Funes (she/her) and I am currently a senior pursuing a dual degree in Religious Studies and Hispanic Studies with minors in Composite Natural Sciences and Medical Humanities — plus a certificate in Entrepreneurship!

I’m beyond excited to continue expanding my global perspective as I travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina and Almería, Spain this summer. Since 2023, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in three different countries — and by the end of this summer, I’ll have made it to five!

Right now, I’m actually spending time with family in El Salvador, so instead of my usual departure from RDU, I’ll be navigating my flight out from here! Fortunately, I’ve been lucky to gain a lot of experience traveling solo and managing airports on my own, which has definitely helped ease some of the pre-travel nerves.

I will be living with a host family while in Argentina and since I have lived with one before, I’m not as nervous about it this year as I was my first time especially since I have been in communication with them! While in Spain I will be living in a dorm with a roommate and am very excited to be going to school beside the beach!

I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to travel and immerse myself in all these different cultures.  I’m especially excited to see how my academic interests in religion and health, intersect in these different communties.

I’m so thankful for the chance to share this adventure with inspiring pirates 🏴‍☠️and I can’t wait to take you all along for the ride. Stay tuned for more updates!
