Laney – United Kingdom

Hello everyone! My name is Laney (she/her), I am going into my junior year here at ECU majoring in nutrition with a concentration in pre-health professions and minoring in sports science. Here at East Carolina University I am involved in the Honors College and Delight Ministries, which is a girls campus ministry here at ECU! I will actually be joining the leadership team this fall as the worship leader! I have also been involved in intramural football here on the Honors College team and we made it to semifinals last season! Going to the UK, especially London, has been my biggest dream for as long as I can remember, so going on this trip and being able to study sports science there is checking off my number one bucket list item in the best way possible. I have a feeling this is going to be a very rewarding and sentimental trip to me because my biggest dream is coming true so this trip means a lot to me.

The specific program I am studying abroad with is a faculty led program in London, Manchester, and Glasgow studying sports science. We will be visiting professional sport organizations and tour Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge Stadium, Manchester City FC’s Etihad Stadium, Celtic Park in Glasgow, and meet sport scientists from West Ham United FC, the Royal Ballet, Great Britain Boxing, and visit historical sites in the cities! We also get to attend the Chelsea FC versus Manchester United game at Stamford Bridge! I am most excited about anything Chelsea related because that is my family’s team in the Premier League so this is another dream that is coming true!

Going into this trip, I want to make sure that I can take as much out of it as I can culturally, socially, and also academically. I have never traveled abroad before, so every aspect of this experience will be new to me. Fear and uncomfortableness are out the window, I want to do as much as I can and experience everything. I can’t wait to keep you updated on how my study abroad goes!
