Meg

Hello! My name is Meaghan Skelly, she/her, and I am a Junior studying Communication with a focus in Public Relations. I am from Asheville, North Carolina and have come a long way from not knowing ECU existed 4 years ago. Both the university and the Office of Global Affairs have given me the best college experience and opportunities I could have ever asked for.

Where did you study abroad?

ECU Tuscany Program

What is Your Favorite Memory from Your Time Abroad?

My favorite memory from when I was abroad was seeing the Colosseum in Rome for the first time. It felt surreal to be in place I had heard of and studied my whole life.

How Has Studying Abroad Helped Your Personal and Professional Life?

Studying abroad has opened so many doors to opportunities on campus and in my Professional career. I completed an internship and networked while I was studying abroad that was a glowing addition to my resume and gave me a multitude of new contacts to reach out to later on down the road.

What Advice Can You Offer to Students Interested in Studying Abroad?

Studying Abroad is not a traditional luxury that will be available for the rest of your life. It is not often that you get the opportunity to leave to another country for 2 weeks to a year without missing work or completely relocating. The benefits from it are not only fun but also build up your professional life and personal network. You truly have nothing to lose from studying abroad with ECU.

Do You Have Any Plans or Ideas to Travel Abroad Again?

In college, I would absolutely love to study abroad again on trips in the School of Communication. Once I graduate, I fully intend on scouting out a position in my field that has travel opportunities incorporated with it as well.
