Project Description:
In this project, students explored strategies used by adult educators in the U.S. and Germany to create inclusive learning environments for adults. Students worked in small groups on a chosen topic and documented their findings in a variety of ways. These final outcomes included infographics, PowerPoint presentations, or webpages.
Modality:
Synchronous, Asynchronous, Project-based
Tools Used:
Zoom; Padlet; Google Docs; WhatsApp
Project Length:
5 – 6 Weeks
Learning Outcomes/Goals:
Students increased understanding of specific strategies to create inclusive learning environments for adult learners.
Benefits for Students:
Student learning will range widely and will depend on so many aspects that you can’t control for. As long as you stress the importance of communicating among small group members, most students will learn much more than you expect.
Tips:
Don’t expect everything to run smoothly, especially the first time you work with a partner. Students aren’t the only ones who learn from COIL. My COIL partner and I have both been amazed at how much we learn about teaching every time we collaborate.
