Where did you study abroad?
Tuscany, Italy
What is Your Favorite Memory from Your Time Abroad?
My favorite memory was our free day. We got to pick where we wanted to see that was not originally in our itinerary. This was great because it allowed us to customize what we wanted to do because we were now in a smaller group. We went Lucca for the day where we rode four person bikes as well as shopped around. That afternoon another group of us went into Florence for the evening. We had a great time all together!
How Has Studying Abroad Helped Your Personal and Professional Life?
Studying abroad really brought me out of my shell and helped me become a much more independent person. Before I did not like trying new things or experience but Italy taught me that it is ok to be spontaneous and try new things. It also teaches a level of becoming an adult. You learn to navigate new places on your own and making big decisions by yourself. I also got to meet the most amazing people on the trip and they have become my best friends even since returning to ECU!
What Advice Can You Offer to Students Interested in Studying Abroad?
The best advice I can offer is to say yes. Do not let fear hold you back and do not say no just because you are not sure you will enjoy it. You never know what you like until you try it. Saying yes also allows you to make new memories and bond with the people you are with. You are also potentially only traveling around the world once in your life and may never get these same opportunities and you do not want to regret not participating. Also make sure to bring extra money as you may spend more then you plan.
